Games that weren't at least moderately laggy, but it's better than nothing, and on a LAN it should work quite well.On the technical end, the very console-ish X-Men Legends II translates to the PC pretty well. The game isn't that much of a resource hog, so the graphics and higher resolutions are going to look pretty good on many machines relative to the console versions. The fact that most gamers' PCs are already connected to the Internet is also an advantage here, especially over the GameCube version, which doesn't even offer online multiplayer.Where the PC version lacks a bit, though, is in the controls. I forced myself to play the first few hours of the game using the keyboard and mouse, and while it was certainly playable, it was a clumsy experience compared to the PlayStation 2 setup I used to play the first game. With the mouse and keyboard setup, it's difficult to rotate the camera or make quick, fluid movements with your characters. What I eventually did was pick up a cheap USB adapter for my PlayStation 2 controller and used that for the remainder of the game, which worked extremely well; either that or a well-endowed PC gamepad should serve you well.X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse is a treat for X-Man fans, though you don't need to be fan of the comics to enjoy it. There's tons of content in the form of characters, powers, stats, and unlockable treats, and the action -- especially during the boss fights -- is usually satisfying. It can be a bit too linear and the clumsy keyboard/mouse setup detracts from the PC version a bit, but otherwise, it's uncannily good. How to run this game on modern Windows PC?This game has been set up to work on modern Windows (11/10/8/7/Vista/XP 64/32-bit) computers without problems.People who downloaded X-Men: Legends II - Rise of Apocalypse have also downloaded:Marvel Ultimate Alliance, X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Uncaged Edition, X-Men: The Ravages of Apocalypse, X-Men: The Official Game, X-Men: Children of The Atom, Ultimate Spider-Man, Age of Empires III, System Shock©2025 San Pedro Software. While Magneto rescues Mystique from a prison convoy, he recruits the other imprisoned mutants, including Multiple Man and Juggernaut. He was able to rob seven banks at the same time due to his powers. It's unknown what the limits of his powers (if there are any) are, but he's shown to create over 100 copies of himself. Here's what we know.Spoiler Warning: This article includes spoilers for X-Men '97, so proceed with caution. The new series comes as a revival of the classic X-Men: The Animated Series, which ran from 1992 to 1997. X-Men '97 continues where the 90s series ended. The show also brings together the much-loved characters from the franchise. In X-Men '97, the much-loved leader gets assassinated by a human. Credit: Marvel Studios AnimationAside from Professor Charles Xavier, Jean Grey has long been thought of as the only one who can use Cerebro without repercussions. But as proven in the comics, anyone with psychic powers can use the machine. However, those with lesser minds experience a psychic shock after using it.Of course, Jean Grey (voiced by Jennifer Hale) is one of the select few who can use Cerebro without the painful shock. This is because Jean Grey is an evolved mutant and has powerful abilities in telekinesis and telepathy. Not to mention, her powers have ben further enhanced by the Phoenix Force's cosmic energies. It's also worth noting that Jean Grey was the first official student of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. She was also the first mutant that Professor X tested Cerebro on.Xavier also had Jean Grey in the room when he calibrated Cerebro. By doing so, the machine was able to accustom itself to powerful mutants like Jean Grey.RELATED: Is X-Men '97 Part of the MCU? Showrunner Sets the Record StraightWhat Did Jean Grey See in Cerebro? 2025-03-29The world of the X-Men is such a great universe for an RPG to take place in. For starters, it’s believable; Second, there are so many unique characters to choose from and you never know who you’ll run into next. This is why I enjoyed the original X-Men Legends so much. Not only was it a blast to play, but it was worth the price of admission alone just to hear my favorite X-Men with voices. The second X-Men Legends game, The Rise of Apocalypse, goes above and beyond the call of duty, and fixes almost everything that was wrong with the original. In fact, X-Men Legends 2 is one of the best multiplayer action-RPGs of this generation, and possibly the best comic-based game around.StoryXML2 takes place where the first game left off, with the appearance of the most powerful mutant in the world, Apocalypse. He’s hatched a plan for world domination and abducted two mutants — Quicksilver and Polaris — for unknown reasons. The X-Men and the Brotherhood both try to fight Apocalypse on their own, but he proves too powerful for them to take down divided, so they join forces. This means that you get to play with members of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, such as Magneto, Scarlet Witch, and Juggernaut in addition to new X-Men such as Bishop and Sunfire. What ensues is an epic battle that spans the entire globe. The story manages to keep a good pace, and it follows the comics loosely. You’ll fight the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse and have a showdown with the dastardly Mister Sinister, as well as hunt down Apocalypse. The story is good enough to keep you interested, but not very deep. The story wasn’t very important as I romped through the sewers of Manhattan or through the jungles of the Savage Lands. Considering that XML2 is an action-RPG much like Champions of Norrath, the lack of story isn’t surprising, but that’s no excuse, especially for X-Men. The story itself just isn’t as dynamic as it was in the comics.GraphicsThe graphics in XML2 are cel-shaded. It can be argued that cel-shading has become something of a fad among developers these days, but it works extremely well for the X-Men. The characters are rendered in great detail and remind me of the comic book. There are a plethora of unlockable character skins as well, giving you tons of customisation options, with anywhere from four to seven alternates that you can unlock for each mutant. The environments you’ll visit are much more varied than in the last game, and include the deep jungle of the Savage Lands, the vast Church of the Madri, and the streets of New York City. The environments look great, and they feel like a part of the X-Men universe. Very few comic book games have managed to do this. The game also features CG cut scenes that show the X-Men in their 3D glory. It’s unfortunate that they just aren’t very good. The characters look great, but the
2025-04-08In classic sequel tradition, Raven Software has made the action RPG, X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse, the game that X-Men Legends should have been. It's got tons of playable characters including a healthy range of X-men and the Brotherhood of Evil, it's bigger and more interactive, and it's re-organized for more efficient team-based leveling up. What else is there? Following the well-tread Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance formula with tweaks, additions, and the uncanny X-Men themselves, Activision's new Marvel-ized dungeon-crawler delivers everything you think it does, but the basic premise -- the core game design -- hasn't changed at all. But for what it is, X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse is a solid, first-class action-RPG that delivers on its promise. Dungeon Crawling, Mutant Style What was that promise? Unadulterated X-men fiending to the first degree. Mutant hacking and slashing. Powering up to ridiculous levels and smashing the crap out of every wall, cave, jungle, enemy, or anything in your path. Playing with your friends online on Xbox and PlayStation (not GameCube) without a split-screen. Yes, indeed. For all those gamers, comic book fans, X-Men movie lovers, RPG fans, and action fans, and all the cross-over folks in between, which means a lot of you, Rise of the Apocalypse provides an abundant surplus of X-Men and Brotherhood characters to play as -- offline or online. You'll probably need about 15 hours to finish it, and to beat it completely and collect everything, add in another couple. Simple yet addictive. In the grand scheme of things, nothing major has changed here. Rise of Apocalypse is pure, familiar, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance-style dungeon crawling. The cool thing, however, is it's X-Men dungeon crawling. Which makes it different and refreshing in a very real sense; there are no orcs, elves, gnomes, or anything
