He did not exercise at all, was stressed out all the time, and just wanted to sleep all day. In his words, "I truly wanted to curl up in a corner and just give up." Bill had tried numerous diets in the past, but to no avail. None of them involved goal setting, and diet alone just didn't work for him. Obviously, you’ll need to make some small changes in your eating and exercise so that you’re achieving energy balance (to maintain weight) instead of creating a calorie deficit (to lose weight). But other than that, the key to successful weight maintenance is maintaining the healthy practices that got you to this point.Unfortunately, this isn’t always as easy or simple as it sounds. Old habits really do die hard. If you struggled with obesity for a long time, or if you lost weight by following some diet plan that you can’t stick with safely or easily, you can’t assume it’s going to be easy to continue eating and exercising in a healthy way now that the weight’s off. Just stopping your healthy lifestyle and going back to "business as usual" will put you on the fast track back to your original weight, and maybe with a few extra pounds.Even if you’ve taken the gradual "lifestyle change" approach advocated by SparkPeople, you’re likely to find yourself facing a new set of challenges as you shift gears into maintenance mode. Being aware of and prepared for these challenges can make it a lot easier to meet them successfully. So let’s take a look at some of the strategies and approaches of people who have lost weight and kept it off.Strategy 1: Redefine Your Goals The Problem: Having a goal weight provided a focus and direction for all the mental and physical energy that you put into this project. But reaching your goal weight can leave you feeling a little disoriented and unsure of what to do next—all the energy, momentum, and purpose you’ve been relying on can evaporate pretty quickly, making it easy to fall back into old habits. Simply trying to maintain your weight loss often isn’t the kind of goal it takes to avoid this problem. The Solution: Set some challenging new goals for yourself, beyond maintaining your weight loss. Ideally, include at least one goal that requires you to stay at least as fit as you are now, or more so. For example, if your main motive for exercising was to burn calories and lose weight, try to find a sport or physical activity you enjoy for its own sake. Then you can put your efforts into getting better at that activity. My ownWeight Loss Success Stories - SparkPeople
By the sun and did not see him. His car was crushed. He was pinned inside the car, and it took paramedics 45 minutes to free him from the car. He recalls that he could hardly breathe during the entire time. Bill suffered many injuries: three broken ribs, a severally sprained neck, a broken shoulder and facial damage, and injuries to his legs and back. He was in critical condition for the three days. At one point, the doctors thought they had lost them. But Bill battled back and after nearly three weeks in the hospital, he was released. Bill told both his doctors and paramedics about the kind of shape he was in a year ago and they all agreed – if he was still in that kind of shape, the crash would have killed him. He was so big that he would have been crushed and died before the doctors had a chance to save him. Throughout his stay at the hospital, Bill showed character and determination that he never had a year ago. Through his persistence, he was able to get a laptop computer and Internet access in his room so he could continue talking to the SparkPeople Community, while getting work done as well. As amazing as his weight-loss was, the quick recovery he experienced after his accident might be even more remarkable. The day he was discharged, he received the "Making a Difference" award at his church’s annual convention. The award is not even given out every year, but the church awarded it to Bill. He realized, more so than ever, how the change in his life had not only affected him, but others around him.Popular Blogs for weight loss - SparkPeople
A SparkPeople card with my username written on it. I tell them the benefits of getting healthy the natural way. For them though, those are reasonable answers to their fitness problems. I don’t feel they are any more right or wrong than I am. We are all out to save our lives from this obesity epidemic and there are many options out there. The trick is finding what works for you personally. With so much advice out there, so many tips and tricks, so many magazines promoting new miracle diets, so many medical discoveries happening in the field, the weight loss industry is huge. Unfortunately so is the problem of obesity. We have celebrities promoting diet clinics, ads for diet pills on every other magazine, and doctors treating patients with disrespect if they can’t lose weight. Even insurance companies are asking the obese to pay more for insurance or flat out refusing to cover them. (I was refused coverage once at 250 pounds back in 1989.) My point is that the world is changing, my friends. Obesity is now considered an epidemic and we are all responsible to find a cure. It isn’t going to be a one cure fits all fix, like a vaccination. We each have to find our own way. We know some basics, that calories in and calories out are the baseline answer to the physiological problem. It’s the psychological, genetics, disease related, and who knows whatever else, we need help to solve. Those things are all variables to which there is more than one problem and definitely more than one solution. What works for me may not work for you. What works for you or any movie star definitely does not work for me. I mean it could if I were well and LOVED the gym and not eating. That isn’t me, however. What really can work is finding a way to change our lives without disrupting them severely. That’s the trick. Read, watch, listen, talk, absorb, gather all the information you can and make those changes one by one as they suit your individuality.. SparkPeople Body Weight Loss Burn. SparkPeople's features, community and mobile apps closed on August 17, 2021. We'd like to introduce you to SparkAmerica, a new platform we hope you will join to help spread the spark to even more people! SparkAmerica is a national movement and fitness challenge, where you can compete with cities across the nation, work toward personal growth and even win prizes! The ad-free site will also include a nutrition and fitness tracker, challenges, articles and recipes, along with many other features we are working to develop. If you have any questions or problems, please email [email protected]. More About SparkPeople Closing We want to thank you for inviting us to be a part of your journey and for the privilege of earning your support and enthusiasm for the brand. SparkPeople's business model has always been free and was driven by advertiser support, a model that became difficult to maintain in recent years. With many larger technology companies emerging in the health and fitness space, we struggled to compete for the same advertising dollars that would keep the site online and alive. Unfortunately, it costs many millions of dollars per year to run SparkPeople, and the burden eventually became too much. SparkAmerica is part of our new business model, in which we work with companies and organizations to help keep their employees healthy with PeopleOne Health. Not only does this business model allow us to expand our health offerings to more people, but it also does a much better job of paying the bills and will likely allow us to hire more people over time to keep improving our tech offerings. We're very excited that we can open up our website and app for this business while keeping it free to help all individuals and organizations in the United States achieve their health and fitness goals.
